Welcome to the country Gîtes of Kernasquellec, self-catering accommodation for four in Gîte N° 318, for three in Gîte N° 319.
Located right on the border of the forest of Floranges in southern Brittany, a half-hour drive from the sandy Atlantic beaches, and part of the tiny village of Kernasquellec or (Kernaskellec or Kern-As-Quellec, as it is sometimes spelt) these gîtes are usually appreciated for being quiet, peaceful, and comfortable, well deserving their three stars.
They used to be part of a farmhouse in the time of the present owner’s grandparents. Both houses offer an open view on the forest of Floranges in the distance. Our guests particularly enjoy the long warm evenings sitting on the terrace in the summer, or inside in winter in front of the wood fire.
On Television you can watch the French channels or - if you miss home - BBC 1, BBC 2, and a few others in your own language.
Bedrooms are small but comfortable.

Gîte 318 or BM 4471 is semi-detached, next to an unoccupied apartment.
Downstairs: one large room with one corner made into a well-equipped kitchen, a shower and toilet.
The open staircase takes you to the two bedrooms and bathroom. Toilet upstairs too.
You will have your own parking space in front of the gîte and access to the old farm building that we call a garage, in which you can leave cumbersome luggage like rooftop trunks etc
Your lawn goes down to the road some 30 yards away. There is very little traffic even in the summer.

Gîte 319 or BM 6034 is more spacious and has one bedroom downstairs with a double bed with a bathroom en suite. Upstairs: two bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with a single bed. A shower and separate toilet.
The gîte adjoins the owner’s house.
One large room downstairs with a fully-equipped kitchen.
The terrace opens onto a large lawn with an old walnut tree.

WHAT TO DO DURING YOUR HOLIDAY:

http://www.gites-de-france-morbihan.com/kernasquellec/loisirs.html

- Visit Camors www.camors56.com and the Museum of the wooden clog, see the last working clog maker or « sabotier »
- Go for a walk in the forest following one of dozens of carefully signposted paths, you might see some deer or more likely some foxes or rabbits in the evenings. Discover some of our legends like  ‘Bé er Sant’ (Breton for The Saint’s Tomb) , the standing stones in the middle of the forest, an old Roman camp, a covered alley, springs…
- Go fishing at l'Etang du Petit-Bois
- Cycle along the small roads which are quite safe - mind you: we do get some traffic in summer, but nothing compared to that in towns. Camors is well known by the great national and international champions who have all cycled along the Ronde des Korrigans which is just outside the gîtes. It’s a 2.5km loop that they go round 45 times. This happens every year in July just a few days after the Tour de France ends on the Champs Elysées. It attracts about 20,000 people every year. The Gîte guests never believe me when I warn them about swarms of people descending on the village for one evening - a friendly crowd, all age groups, we’ve seen more and more families coming since the entry fees have been abolished.
- For the more energetic there is our Adventure Park www.camors-adventure-forest.com
- Go horse-riding, at a place called L’Etre Cheval right in the forest.

5 kms around:
- The postcard museum in Baud www.cartolis.org
- The Venus at Quinipily in Baud, a strange statue with a long and mysterious story.
- The hill of Maneguen in Guénin with a connection with the time of the Druids. www.maneguen.com
- The Valley of the River Blavet, www.blavet.com , for cycling or canoeing.

15 kms away:
- the 16th century village of Poul Fetan in Quistinic www.poul-fetan.com , our heritage park.
- The Museum of St Degan in Brech www.ecomusee-st-degan.fr

18 kms away: visit the fish market in Auray www.auray-tourisme.com (every day)

30 kms away:
- Visit the medieval cities of Vannes www.tourisme-vannes.com , Josselin www.josselin.com, Pontivy www.ville.pontivy.fr, and Hennebont www.ville-hennebont.fr/
- Take a day excursion on the Golfe du Morbihan and see its islands.
- See the prehistoric site of Carnac, its fields of standing stones, the tumulus, the Museum
- Other famous megaliths in Locmariaquer, La Table des Marchand, and the tumulus on the island of Gavrinis which is often compared to Stonehenge in England or New Grange in Ireland.
- Walk along the scenic wild coast of Quiberon.
- Go to the wide sandy beaches of Erdeven, or Penthièvre, or Carnac…

If you are interested in Art, there is a special festival called « L’Art dans les Chapelles », every summer, www.artchapelles.com , which will allow you to enter some very rare places, most of them open to the public only for this event. So you will see modern paintings and sculptures, but also about fifty chapels which are part of our extraordinary religious and artistic heritage.

Last but not least: you must not leave the area without tasting our specialities of seafood and crêpes in the numerous restaurants and crêperies close-by.

« We have thoroughly enjoyed our week in this lovely cottage- it is clean, comfortable and has everything we need for easy living. It is so peaceful here - just the birds singing in the trees & butterflies busy over the lawn. And how lucky we’ve been with the weather! It has been perfect. » Signed: Roy and Marjorie from Essex, England and their friend Wynne, (Ontario, Canada). (an extract from the Gîte Journal)
